Johnny Blue Skies & Shades of White
Something a little different for today…
My wife and I talk about some of our favorite music/musicians being “salve to our souls” at times. We’re both musicians to some degree (she far more so than I), and music is a massive part of our lives.
We saw Alanis live back in June; for my wife, that was a soul-salve moment. James Taylor is another go-to salve.
For me, it’s usually the Dave Matthews Band, Bill Withers, or Alison Krauss. But I’ve pretty much added Sturgill Simpson to that list, too.
He’s got a new album under the pseudonym “Johnny Blue Skies” and played a show in San Francisco last week. And he and his band decided to break out a cover of what is possibly one of the greatest songs ever written, Procul Harum’s “Whiter Shade of Pale.”
I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but I certainly needed to listen to it last night. I hope it brings peace to your life as it has to mine.
